For many who deal with life threatening illnesses and physical conditions, the fear that help will not be available when needed often looms in the back of the mind. As modern medicine, technology, and communication skills have evolved over the past 50 years, at last there is in some sense a partial solution to the worry of a sudden medical incident occurring while alone. Medical alerts range from a devise that an individual can wear to an alert system installed in the home so that if and when the individual suffers from a physical condition they may instantly contact medical assistance. In cases of a heart attack, stroke, trauma, or insulin reaction among other things, the person wearing the medical alert system simply presses the medical panic button and a distress signal is sent to an operator. The operator in turn uses the information sent from the medical alert system to contact assistance for the party in distress so that they may receive help as soon as physically possible.
